This is a high energy, high intensity class that gets your heart rate up and works all areas of the body through a variety of moves, including jumping, punching, kicking, squatting, etc. Cardio Blast combines multiple elements, designed to improve cardiovascular health, endurance, bone density and coordination while burning fat and toning muscles. In addition to achieving a great workout, you’ll have a blast doing it!

Cardio Blast is lead by Nicole Barbour.

Nicole grew up in Columbus and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in English and a Master’s Degree in Education at The Ohio State University. I recently moved back from Florida to be close to my family and friends. I am passionate about fitness and enjoy helping others reach their goals! She is also an endurance athlete and enjoys outdoor sports. She is energetic, encouraging and values her relationships with members and clients.

While running, jogging and walking may be more popular forms of exercise, hip hop dance can be used as a fun alternative to help you achieve aerobic and anaerobic benefits. The aerobic benefits occur as a cardio exercise that gets your heart pumping and your breathing rate up. The anaerobic benefits occur as you strengthen your thighs, glutes, calves and other muscles in your legs and arms. Best of all, hip hop dance puts less of an impact on your feet and knees so you give your body a new way of working out. The fast-paced workout that comes with doing hip hop dance is something that can be very beneficial to your body. You don’t have to appreciate hip hop music in order to get the benefits of a class, either. Come prepared to move your body in new ways and get aerobic and anaerobic results right away. This high energy class uses the latest sounds in rap, R&B and pop music. Break, pop and lock!

Hip Hop Fitness is lead by Amber.

Amber is super excited to be joining the amazing team at EquiVita! Amber’s love for dance started at the age of three. Growing up Amber studied multiple styles of dance in both Columbus and New York City, and received her Bachelors of Fine Arts from Wright State University. Amber’s love of Zumba came about after having her baby girl in January of 2010. She was looking for a fitness class in which she could work off her baby “padding”, as well as fulfill her artistic outlet in dance.

Tis the season to Kickstart your fitness!

Kick Ass Cardio is the original program designed by EquiVIta’s own Transitional Fitness Trainer Christopher Yeoman a military veteran with over 28 years of martial arts experience, incorporating moves from Muy Thai , Tae Kwondo, and the ever popular realm of mixed martial arts

Kick Ass Cardio gives you a pulse pounding, fat burning , stress relieving workout that is totally tailored to your level.
Kick Ass Cardio is instinctive and easy to master,
and then you adjusts the same techniques on an individual level to increase the
intensity and just how hard you bring it.

Traditional Cardio-Kickboxing classes provide no kinetic feedback to the body allowing for sloppy technique and no real sense of the bodies full potential of motion. In Kick Ass Cardio that feed back is imperative to the full experience and helps develop muscle strength , better balance, develops bone density, as well as increasing stamina.

Testimonials from our KAC clients

“I came to Equivita looking for a kickboxing class to try. I found a place that cared more about my health and wellbeing more than filling a class. I was surprised by the diversity of the classes offered and the kindness of the staff. They cared about my goals and helping me safely obtain them. The variety and varying difficulty of classes made it easy to obtain my goals. The massage therapists helped keep my body in tip top shape while I was taking all my favorite classes.” ~ Ashley Davis : Satisfied client at EquiVita

“I started in February and attend at least 2
nights per week. I continue to go for a couple of reasons. 1) The
workouts are never the same, and Chris is always increasing the intensity
level. 2) It has improved my stamina and my strength. I am an avid runner
and I run approx 20-25 miles per week. While my cardio levels are good, I
needed to increase my strength training and improve muscle tone. This
class is helping me do exactly that!
When I started this class, it was amazing to me how tired I was 15 minutes into the class.
I’ve taken other cardio kickboxing classes in town, and the intensity level
Chris brings is a bit higher which I really like. I also like that Chris
makes sure that proper techniques are used in the class, and he goes out of
his way to teach those techniques so that students maximize their
performance and minimize injuries.” ~ Matt Usher Satisfied client at EquiVIta

This class is about personal power. Accept the challenge and prepare to amaze
yourself.

Christopher started training in the martial arts at the age of eight. He attained his black belt of Tae Kwon Do in the style of Ji Do Kwan when he was twelve and then achieved his 3rd Dan belt when he was around twenty. Christopher entered the United States Navy shortly after high school and spent over 8 years traveling and living abroad in countries such as Japan, Korea, and Thailand.
In those travels he had the opportunity to study numerous martial arts in the specific countries of origin. While abroad he immersed himself in arts such as Eskrima from the Phillipines and Bojutsu from Okinawa. He was privileged to experience the cultural differences and history from numerous teachers, providing him with a unique experience and perspective in his own teachings of physical, mental conditioning, and self defense. Christopher has taught at the college level classes in human behavior, situational response, and the bodies response to stress during times of crisis. Christopher looks forward to bringing his experiences to Kick Ass Cardio and sharing them with you.

We at Kick Ass Cardio are not picky. Shorts a T-shirt and comfortable shoes are the dress code.
But in order to protect those hands we do require hand wraps. Now we at EquiVita are proud to offer Title hand wraps for purchase in our office for $7.00 or you can rent them for $2.00. These wraps are available at various sporting good stores around Columbus. What you are looking for / asking for is called a Semi Elastic Mexican Handwrap that is 180″. For those with smaller hands it is always better to go longer than try and go shorter and not have enough protection. If you have your own wraps or hand protection go ahead and bring it, as we said we are not picky.

Tribal Belly Dancing

Taught by Aneaj

Tribal Belly Dancing is a combination of Spanish, North African and Indian dances. It’s fun, funky, powerful dancing that emphasizes body awareness. This class is designed to help the novice learn critical steps to help create a solid belly dance foundation of arm, hip, shoulder, belly, head, leg and foot movements. The spontaneous dancing comes from taught steps combined into a set of movements. Those sets of movements are then done as an improvisation or used in more choreographed dances to music.

A little bit about Drew:
Drew is dedicated to listening and helping each client achieve his or her personal fitness goals. After struggling with his own health and having to undergo emergency surgery a few years ago, Drew became dedicated to getting his body into shape as well as his overall well being. While succeeding in achieving his own goals, he watched as others struggled and complained about “not getting anywhere” and he naturally became more and more interested in helping others reach their potential. Fate then handed him the opportunity to work towards an occupation where he can help others when he was laid-off from his Graphic Design position, allowing him the time to return to school and work towards the rewarding career change. Drew’s goals are to continue to learn and study in order to better assist each and every client the best way possible. He is still dedicated to maintaining his own health as well, running and exercising almost every day and training for marathons. Since changing his lifestyle, Drew has never had a recurring problem from the disease that plagued him years earlier.
