The War on Fat! FitU for this Saturday!! April 28th from 10-11am
It wasn’t always like this, but for the better part of the last century body fat has been treated as a scourge on society and something of which a healthy individual would want to rid themselves. But is it true? Has our focus on body fat being evil blinded us to what is really important for our health? Has too much emphasis been placed on the battle against fat that it has hindered our ability to understand, and thus, control and direct it? At this Fit U we will discuss fat and those things that make the simple Calories In Vs. Calories Out equation complex.

Hey, make the most if it! The next FitU discussion! Saturday, March 10th, 10-11 am!
While there continues to be a near endless stream of supplements and aids that promote themselves as being able to speed the process of losing fat and toning up, it is important to perhaps compare those claims against those products designed to heal the body from injury. Step 1 for the comparison is to remember the phrase, YOU CANNOT SPEED UP HEALING, YOU CAN ONLY OPTIMIZE IT. This Fit U is about the all important Rest key and how to make it, and thus any exercise you do, most effective.

Laissez les Bon Temps Roulez (Let the Good Times Roll)! Fat Tuesday is around the corner
Laissez les Bon Temps Roulez!
Or sometimes spelled: “Laissez les bons temps rouler!”
“Laissez les bons temps rouler!” is a Cajun expression meaning “Let the good times roll!” It strongly conveys the “joie de vivre” (“joy of living”) attitude that pervades south Louisiana…and the Equivita ‘way.’
When the first signs of spring appear and the long, dismal days of winter are finally past, people’s thoughts immediately turn to Mardi Gras. And, why not? It’s a riot of colors, festivities and people that create a recipe for frivolity that chase away any remnants of Old Man Winter. The world loves Mardi Gras because it allows them to escape their humdrum daily routine in exchange for bacchanalian partying with all the trimmings.
Like years past we will celebrate Fat Tuesday with slices of King Cake, complete with hidden babies(not real babies…little plastic lucky babies). Normally the baby-finder is responsible for hosting the next grand ole gala, but at EquiVita the lucky individual that finds a baby in his/her slice of King Cake will be entered into our Joie de Vivre Drawing! This pool of lucky cake eaters will find themselves entered to win one of several lovely prizes, some prizes will be classes or services offered at EquiVita and some prizes have been donated from our business friends in the area, pounds of Cafe Brioso premium coffee for example!
King Cake will be served in the EquiVita Cafe throughout business hours on Fat Tuesday! 1508 Hess St. Columbus OH 43215
So stop by, take a class and grab a slice of King Cake. Odds are you good you’ll have a great time. Odds are great you’ll be another step towards brilliant health. Odds are fair you’ll find a baby and be entered into the Joie de Vivre Drawing…UNLESS you head over to Equivita’s Facebook page and enter the Joie de Vivre Drawing.
Speaking of LIKE, become a friend to EquiVita…LIKE us FB style, and we will double enter you in our Joie de Vivre Drawing. Post that you entered our Joie de Vivre Drawing and we will double enter you to win lovely prizes for good living!

Restorative Yoga Workshop: February 18th from 1pm to 4pm, lead by Kimm Marks.
It comes as a delightful surprise to many beginning yoga students that taking time to rest is an integral part of every yoga class. At the end of class, after the exertions of the yoga practice, time is taken for rest as students settle down into corpse pose or savasana (pronounced sha-va-sa-na.) Lying supine on the floor with a few props for support we are able to surrender our bodies to the support of the earth beneath us. This short but powerful time spent in relaxation offers us the opportunity to depart from the endless activity of ‘doing’ to the serenity of simply ‘being.’ For many practitioners of yoga, it is this practice of savasana that is the most pleasurable, if not the most profound, part of their practice.
The practice of restorative or ‘restful’ yoga takes its inspiration from the practice of savasana. In a restorative practice, most if not all, of the postures are done restfully, in a manner that gently opens the body. Using a variety of yoga props (bolsters, blankets, yoga blocks) students are assisted in setting up their props to create a unique foundation for rest in a particular pose. During this workshop, we will explore a variety of postures(we can modify all poses to suit the needs of each student respectively). A restorative practice can be enjoyed just one posture at a time or practiced in short series of poses over the course of an extended period of time for a profoundly deep experience of rest and relaxation. Participants will discover favorite poses and learn how to use them in a home practice. Restorative yoga can be enjoyed by everyone at all levels of experience with yoga including beginners. Please don’t hesitate to contact us with your questions. We hope that you will take some time to rest with us November 19th.
February 18th from 1-4pm : Restorative Yoga Workshop
The cost of this workshop is $40; early bird pricing is $35 (available until 1 week prior to event)
class size limited, enroll early!

EquiVita’s Kick-Ass Cardio & Fitness
Tis the season to Kickstart your fitness!
Kick Ass Cardio is the original program designed by EquiVIta’s own Transitional Fitness Trainer Christopher Yeoman a military veteran with over 28 years of martial arts experience, incorporating moves from Muy Thai , Tae Kwondo, and the ever popular realm of mixed martial arts
Kick Ass Cardio gives you a pulse pounding, fat burning , stress relieving workout that is totally tailored to your level.
Kick Ass Cardio is instinctive and easy to master,
and then you adjusts the same techniques on an individual level to increase the
intensity and just how hard you bring it.
Traditional Cardio-Kickboxing classes provide no kinetic feedback to the body allowing for sloppy technique and no real sense of the bodies full potential of motion. In Kick Ass Cardio that feed back is imperative to the full experience and helps develop muscle strength , better balance, develops bone density, as well as increasing stamina.
Testimonials from our KAC clients
“I came to Equivita looking for a kickboxing class to try. I found a place that cared more about my health and wellbeing more than filling a class. I was surprised by the diversity of the classes offered and the kindness of the staff. They cared about my goals and helping me safely obtain them. The variety and varying difficulty of classes made it easy to obtain my goals. The massage therapists helped keep my body in tip top shape while I was taking all my favorite classes.” ~ Ashley Davis : Satisfied client at EquiVita
“I started in February and attend at least 2
nights per week. I continue to go for a couple of reasons. 1) The
workouts are never the same, and Chris is always increasing the intensity
level. 2) It has improved my stamina and my strength. I am an avid runner
and I run approx 20-25 miles per week. While my cardio levels are good, I
needed to increase my strength training and improve muscle tone. This
class is helping me do exactly that!
When I started this class, it was amazing to me how tired I was 15 minutes into the class.
I’ve taken other cardio kickboxing classes in town, and the intensity level
Chris brings is a bit higher which I really like. I also like that Chris
makes sure that proper techniques are used in the class, and he goes out of
his way to teach those techniques so that students maximize their
performance and minimize injuries.” ~ Matt Usher Satisfied client at EquiVIta
This class is about personal power. Accept the challenge and prepare to amaze
yourself.

Instructor:
Christopher Yeoman, Boxing Instructor
Christopher started training in the martial arts at the age of eight. He attained his black belt of Tae Kwon Do in the style of Ji Do Kwan when he was twelve and then achieved his 3rd Dan belt when he was around twenty. Christopher entered the United States Navy shortly after high school and spent over 8 years traveling and living abroad in countries such as Japan, Korea, and Thailand.
In those travels he had the opportunity to study numerous martial arts in the specific countries of origin. While abroad he immersed himself in arts such as Eskrima from the Phillipines and Bojutsu from Okinawa. He was privileged to experience the cultural differences and history from numerous teachers, providing him with a unique experience and perspective in his own teachings of physical, mental conditioning, and self defense. Christopher has taught at the college level classes in human behavior, situational response, and the bodies response to stress during times of crisis. Christopher looks forward to bringing his experiences to Kick Ass Cardio and sharing them with you.
